2009 CABERNET SAUVIGNON The Cañon Creek Vineyard is located in the foothills just east of the town of St. Helena located at the base of Howell Mountain just below the beginning of that Appellation and above the St. Helena Appellation. The soils are volcanic in nature and well drained. The vineyard is planted to 100% Cabernet Sauvignon using two clonal selections. A little over half of the vineyard is planted to Clone 6 and the balance is Clone 337. The combination of clones result in wines of deep concentration yet maintaining wines of balance and complex structure. The vineyard is planted using dense spacing and a VSP training system allowing for more light into the fruit zone to maximize varietal development. This vineyasrd comprises 1.4 acres and is located at an elevation of approximately 1000ft.

Medal90 Points "Exceptional" |
(2007 Notes) 91 points - The black currant flavors of this cabernet are rich and provocative, with black herb and a lot of grape-skin tannin that tastes of bosky plum skins. Grown at a vineyard in the foothills of Howell Mountain, this is juicy and warm, needing the grizzle of a ribeye to match the tannin. |
