New Release for Spring 2009

 2006 Tomasson Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

We are extremely lucky to have this fantastic St. Helena vineyard in our line-up. Tomasson is on the southern border of the St. Helena appellation and consists of very well-drained, alluvial soils.  The wine just wants to dance in your mouth.  The gravelly soils and minimum water input ensure a small crop with intense concentration.

This small vineyard surrounds the country home of Helgi and Marlene Tomasson who once danced together with the Joffrey Ballet. Today, Helgi is the Artistic Director for the San Francisco Ballet.

My Notes:
Aroma: tobacco, cherry floral. Taste: oak, cedar, full-bodied, strong tannins, rich, long-lingering finish, boysenberry-marionberry.

What Others Say:
BTI World Wine Championships Tastings.com Award: Gold Medal, rated 95 points (Exceptional)

Tomasson Vineyard — 74 Cases— $48

2006 Cañon Creek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Our “home vineyard,” is nestled in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, perched between the St. Helena and Howell Mountain Appellations.  The soils and the selections of clones 6 and 337 make for a complex Cabernet that shows consistent attributes of deep color, full body, and balance from vintage to vintage.

My Notes:
Aroma: Deep fruit aroma, dark fruits, vanilla. Taste: Jammy, full-bodied, rich mouthfeel, caramel, butterscotch, intense long-lingering finish, soft oak, polished; big, soft tannins, typical Cañon Creek.

What Others Say:
Wine & Spirits Magazine, April: 91 points EXCEPTIONAL— The black current flavors of this cabernet are rich and provocative, with black herb and a lot of grape-skin tannin that tastes of bosky plum skins.  Grown at a vineyard in the foothills of Howell Mountain, this is juicy and warm, needing the grizzle of a ribeye to match the tannin.

BTI World Wine Championships Tastings.com Award: Gold Medal, rated 90 points (Exceptional)

Cañon Creek — 248 Cases— $48

Dear Friends,

We would love to have you come see us. Please be advised that visits to the winery, given it’s small and rustic size, must be arranged in advance. Please call: (707) 225-4367 to set up a visit and a tasting.

From Napa: take the Silverado Trail to Sage Canyon (CA-128 “to Berryessa”) and turn East. Go 400 yards and our entry is on the right.

Best regards,

Sally and Rollie Heitz
